Newest Characters

The most recently published companions, newest at the top. Dates are real publication dates taken from the character files, not the date this page was last built, so a card that says a month means that month.

How new characters get here

Characters are written in waves rather than one at a time. A wave takes a set of gaps in the catalogue — an axis that is thin, a setting nobody has covered, a story shape we have only one of — and fills them together, so a new batch usually broadens the range rather than adding more of what is already here.

Each one is written out in full before it is published: a biography, an opening line, a follow-up, four scene openers, six similar characters and the tags that place her in the catalogue. Nothing appears here as a stub to be filled in later.

Why the newest page is worth checking

New characters enter the ranking at the bottom, so they sit near the end of the trending page for a while whatever they are worth. For their first weeks the practical ways to come across them are this page and the tag pages they belong to.

That makes this the least crowded way into the catalogue. If the well-known characters have not worked for you, the recent end of the list is usually a better use of ten minutes than another pass through the top of the rankings.

What the date on a card means

The month under a name is the month that character was published, read straight from her file. It is not the date this page was generated and it does not change when the site is rebuilt, so two visits a week apart will show you the same dates in the same order.

That matters more than it sounds. A catalogue that quietly restamps everything as new whenever it deploys is telling you nothing, and it is the same habit that produces invented counts and availability lights elsewhere. We would rather the date be dull and correct.
