What this ranking is, precisely

While the catalogue is young the order on this page is an editorial one: it is our reading of which characters open best, and we would rather say that than dress it up. Once there is enough traffic for a weekly measurement to mean anything, the order switches to how often a profile is opened and how often that turns into an opened conversation, on a rolling seven-day window.

Either way we publish the order and not the numbers behind it. A rank stays meaningful whatever the traffic is; a raw count would be either small enough to be discouraging or large enough that you would be right to doubt it. The same reasoning is why no card on this site carries a view counter, a like counter or an availability light.

How to read a ranked list

A ranked list tells you where attention collects, which is useful and is not the same as telling you what you will like. Characters near the top tend to have an unusually strong opening line or a premise that reads well in one glance, and that advantage fades once you are three messages in.

So use this page as a starting point and not as a shortlist. If two or three of these appeal, open the profiles, then follow the similar characters at the bottom of each one — that path reliably lands somewhere better than the top of any ranking.

  • The full catalogue — everyone at once, with filters and search.
  • Recently added — the characters the ranking has not caught up with yet.
  • Categories — choose by story shape or setting instead of by position.
  • Second chance — unfinished business and people who left, if that is the shape you want.
